Touching story right? "What happened after that?" you might be wondering. Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten follows the story of Valvatorez: the once powerful "tyrant" of the netherworld. Having given up his powers along with his conquest for blood, he spends his days working in "Hades," a prison in the Netherworld as a prinny instructor. He eventually becomes fed up with how the corrupternment (the Netherworld equivalent of the government) runs the Netherworld and begins an insurrection.
Disgaea 4 follows the example of the iterations before it, by keeping what works, and adding new features to keep what could be a 100+ hour experience, entertaining throughout. Returning is the grid-based combat, tons of character classes, insane damage, and the ability to raise your character to level 9,999. What's new is Disgaea 4's political theme (much like Disgaea 3's school theme). You can conquer other lands, and expand your rule to the entire world. Doing so will give you more allies to use and, using the all new "power map" system, you can even power up your troops by placing items called "Evil Symbols" onto the map. This gives you a physical link to your team's stats and abilities, rather than just perusing a sub menu. This helpful tool will undoubtedly make everything much more understandable, and interactive.
Another change is in the way you go about recruiting allies. Sure you can still create them using the mana you've collected, but you can also capture prisoners of war. These prisoners can be persuaded or even forced to join your team, through various methods. World dominators will want to take advantage of this feature, as it is a great way to recruit powerful, ready to fight allies.
Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten will be out this September, which is when you can expect my full review. In the mean time please be sure to check out our screenshot gallery. Hopefully these tantalizing screens can hold you over till then.
